This old DC-10 has had quite a long history of owners. It first flew April 18.1975 and then was owned by 9 airlines till it got the fire fighter job Dec, 1, 2007. This plane was on our local news with the big fires of the last couple of years in Colorado.
If you want to see it in action there are YouTube vids. There are also 5 pages of images on Airliners.net.
I have a lot of DC-10s in my collection but none of them are as heavy as this one. The extra weight comes from the water tanks attached to the bottom of the fuselage.
The orange colors of this model on a white back drop bring on a great contrast. This was a passenger aircraft at one time so it has the usual passenger windows which are grayed out. The passenger doors are clearly marked.
The name of this aircraft is Vicki and it is displace below the cockpit windows on both sides of the fuselage. The nose shape, the windows and the cockpit area are perfect. You can see the wind shield wipers.
The landing gear are scaled and feature rolling rubber tires. There is no fleet number on the nose gear covers but the 911 on the tail is repeated on the side of the water tank. There are a number of antennas on this model and warning lights are clearly depicted.
I would not mind seeing this plane in 400 scale at some point. There is also a B747 that has been converted to a fire tanker. Just imagine flying in at tree top level in one of these birds and dropping 1000s of gallons of retardant in one fell swoop. (Posted on 9/10/2015)
