Introduced in 1972, the A300 was the world's first wide-body twin-engine airliner and also the first production of the Airbus consortium. Designed to replace the Boeing 727 on busy, short-medium range routes frequent in transcontinental flights. Also the first airliner to feature the "just-in-time" manufacturing technique which involved different aircraft sections being manufactured by consortium partners and brought and assembled at a final location.
