About Boeing 747

B747

The B747 or "Jumbo Jet" is the first wide-body airliner ever produced; it is two and a half times the size of the B707. After losing out to Lockheed over a USAF ultra-large transport contract, Boeing decided draw upon its designs and develop the B747, seeing a market demand for a high capacity aircraft. Due to it's sheer size the B747 revolutionized airline travel and transport by cutting operating costs. The first flight occurred in 1969, since then over 1,400 of the airliners have been produced, far surpassing expectations.
