Gemini 200 American airlines DC-3-178 /45 NC17334 Flagship Detroit Foundation (c/n 1920)
I am a big fan on the DC-3. This particular aircraft landed at the Cheyenne airport a couple of years ago and my friend there at the airport took a great number of pictures for me. On A-net there are 5 pages of pictures of this plane. The Flagship Detroit was restored recently and has been on tour. Interesting enough, Hogan also issued NC17334. I got to say it is disappointing that some one didn't make a replica of another registration number. Both model moulds GJ and Hogan are not to bad. I like the GJ model better, however. It has a black stripe on the wing next to the fuselage which is well noted in the pictures of the aircraft but doesn't appear on the Hogan unit. There is more detail on the GJ with regard to its engines. Both models feature accurate colors of American Airlines in the day. The GJ version also has a nose antenna visible on the real plane but Hogan did not have one. During the summer of 1934, American decided that it needed a plane that could fly nonstop between New York and Chicago with both the roominess of the Condor and also the DC-2's performance. It approached Douglas about providing a plane to meet these requirements. This aircraft was built in 1937. Other registrations include: NC17334, XB-JAD, XB-HED, N4843V. The aircraft is more than 70 years old and still making the rounds. Review by James F (Posted on 8/7/2011)
