HOBBY MASTER 200 American Airlines MD-11 N1758B (cn 48527/504) , 1990s
N1758B was delivered to American Airlines July 8, 1992, built shortly before that date. AA leased this aircraft out to USAfrica Airways May, 1994 and the aircraft was returned to AA Feb., 1995. The aircraft was eventually converted to cargo and is flying with Federal Express today. This model was met with controversy at 400ScaleHangar.com and you may want to read comments there. I looked on A.net and found this picture which I have used to make my comparison between model and image: http://www.airliners.net/photo/American-Airlines/McDonnell-Douglas-MD-11/1429708/L/&sid=f46354154c499930a69a8a8262d48f87 Looking at the top of the model's fuselage the warning light (raised red), the antenna and the two other objects aft of the antenna are positioned correctly The tail and rear engine is properly seated. I don't like the rear engine intake. It doesn't match up well with the image. HM placed the American Flag and AA logo in the right position on the tail. The tail itself is almost seamless on the model. This model is a mix of metal and plastic. The tail is mainly plastic. The winglets are superb. The AA red, white and blue is visible and the warning lights on both wings stand out nicely. PAX windows seem a little smaller than on the image of the aircraft. Nose shape and cockpit windows are correct. The wings meet the model's fuselage almost seamlessly. The model has rolling tires on the landing gear. I am not sure if it is my copy of the model or standard in the package but my nose gear is tilted more than the real aircraft but it is not a deal breaker for me. The word American on the model appears to be proper size and font. The cheat lines are straight and of the proper colors. The model also has cargo bay doors marked. On both sides of the fuselage under the front doors it says MD 11 Luxury Liner. For me "need" this model in the my AA collection of 200. I am exited to add it.
