I made several transcontinental flights in these in the early '50s with my family. My father was a Naval Officer and every couple of years we transfer duty stations - usually from the west coast to the east coast and back.. On one of these cross country trips we were going to fly on a TWA on a L-1049 Constellation from Washington DC to San Diego. Upon engine start there was an engine fire and we evacuated the aircraft. This was the extent of my flights on an L-1049 - 20 minutes. We transfered to an American DC-6 and completed the trip without any further mishaps.
This model brings back a lot of memories and is nicely detailed. .
