Inflight200 Braniff Concorde N81AC
This is the only Concord I have in my collection in 200 scale. Braniff was a no brainer for me as I have almost everything made in 200 scale in Braniff colors.

Braniff only flew the Concord for about 18 months: Jan., 1979-May, 1980. The aircraft was leased from British Airways and painted in BI colors. It used the N81AC registration during the period.

Several things did in the Concord service. First of all it had a very limited seating capacity. It cost an arm and a leg to fly on it and maintain it. And maybe the biggest factor was that it could not fly at supersonic speeds over the US because of damage the sonic booms would make.

The aircraft flow first Feb. 27, 1975 and was delivered to British Airways (BOAC) as G-BOAC Feb. 13, 1976. After the lease with BI it went back to BA. The aircraft was withdrawn from service Oct., 24, 2003 and is now on display at EGCC (Manchester, UK).

There is an interesting history of BI service: http://www.concordesst.com/history/events/braniff.html

As for the model it has a very unique stand that allows to model to be in the takeoff mode and a steep climb, just short of touching the tail wheel.

Concords look gangly with their long landing gear which is reproduced accurately on this model. I has rubber rolling tires.

The mould appears accurate when compared to images on Airliners.net and other picture sources. With its white color it si pretty bland but the ordage BI on colors give it real class.

The windows are quit tiny but scaled witht he images. The cockpit windows and nose are shaped accurately. The model has an anntena on the top of the fuselabe behind the cockpit. The nose is depicted in the straight foward position as it would be at take off. (When the aircraft is on the ground the nose points downward, however the model is not adjustable.)

All and all I am glad to have this model in my collection. It is unquie with its short lived association with BI.
