Herpa 200 Canadian Forest Service Vickers PBY-5A Catalina C-FDFB
What a nifty model this is! This is Herpa's first 200 scale Catalina and they have picked a rather unique version of the PBY-5. There is only one picture of this aircraft on A-Net: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Government-of-Newfoundland/Canadian-Vickers-OA-10A/1316458/L/&sid=d15744b37d76a64d77b157796fb1de96 In this image the colors are quite different than that of the model's The orange on the model is red on the image while the under belly green on the model is darker. Herpa has gotten the shape of the aircraft well. When I took the model out of the box I was worried that it was missing one of its antennas. But the image shows only one. You can see the landing lights on the wings, The spinning props are positioned correctly on the wings. There are no seam issues with this mould. The landing gear is shaped correctly and rolling tires are enclosed in properly shaped gear covers. On the ends of the main wing pontoons can be displayed in the up or down position. First delivered to the USAAF as 44-34094. It is now on display in Botwood, Newfoundland as E1497. For more information on the history of the Catalina and another picture of this aircraft go to: http://www.michaelprophet.com/News_articles/PBY_CAT.html That other picture color matches much better with our model. No doubt this plane went through more than one paint job in its life! I look forward to more Catalinas from Herpa. Review by James F (Posted on 7/18/2012)
