Hobby Master Chinese MiG-15bis People Volunteers Air Force Hobby Master HA2418 Scale 1:72 North Korea 1950s Country: China Aircraft: Mig-15Bis 1:72 Scale Item: HA2418 In 1948 Russia developed a jet fighter with 35 degree swept-wings and named it the l-310. The plane performed poorly because of the under powered engine. At this time Britain donated a new far superior Rolls-Royce Nene engine to Russia who quickly copied the engine and renamed the Klimov RD-45. The l-310 with the new engine was renamed the MiG-15 and in 1950 a new variant with improved avionics and an even more powerful engine took to the sky as the MiG-15bis. The Mig-15 entered the Korean War in November 1950 flown by Soviet pilots because the North Korean and Chinese were still being trained on this aircraft. The CPVAF was created in September 1950. It wasn’t long into the war when it was felt they had been trained enough and the Soviet pilots were withdrawn and replaced with North Korean volunteer pilots. The Mig-15 came as a complete shock to the UN Forces so they hurried the F-86 into production to counter the MiG.
