Delta began 727-200 service with an even dozen in august 1972 after the purchase of Northeast. It wasn't long before the repainted yellowbirds were rolling the taxiways of ATL, BOS, DFW, and MIA. It allowed Delta to retire the sleek but thirsty CV880's and begin a much- needed fleet consolidation. N499DA joined the ranks in september 1975. The markings of this model are quite accurate and as with all diecast airliners, you should take it outside at least once and hold it against the sky.
This is what aviation looked like thirty years ago. Enjoy it for what it is and what it represents, because the tri-jet was an elegant beast in its crisp Delta livery. (Posted on 4/21/2012)
