As far as I am concerned I hope GJ uses this mould till the wings fall off. To do anything DC-3 is to give diecast collectors one of the biggest icons in aviation history. With more than 12,000 DC-3/C-47's made there are a great number of candidates for reproduction. This particularly DC-3 with its long heritage shows the amazing, 5-year restoration of Delta’s DC-3 Ship 41, from a rusty freighter to 1940s passenger plane with modern flight capability. This was Delta's first DC-3 and Delta is the only airline that their first DC-3 in flying conditions. It took 5 years to restore the aircraft to flying condition, faithfully reproducing the aircraft in its 1940 delivery colors with modern avionics added. Ship 41 was the first DC-3 placed into Delta's scheduled passenger service, entering service on December 24, 1940. It retired after 18 years of service and was bought by North Central Airlines. It went through several additional owners before it was located in Puerto Rico, registered as N29PR, before Delta retirees, purchased the aircraft and brought in for restoration. The model is a near perfect reproduction of the aircraft today with a polished metal backdrop and the 1940s Delta colors painted on it. The model details include detailed reproduction of the engines, landing gear and markings on the aircraft. The passenger windows and passenger doors are sharply printed on the mdoel. The cockpit shape and windows are correct as is the cockpit nose. Just an awesome reproduction for five stars. Review by James F (Posted on 8/25/2012)
