The F-16 Fighting Falcon was produced by General Dynamics who became Lockheed who then
merged with Martin Marietta to become Lockheed Martin. The F-16 entered service in January
1979 as a multi-role jet fighter that evolved into an all-weather multi-role aircraft capable of
sustaining 9-g turns. The F-16 is relatively inexpensive to purchase and maintain so the U.S. and 25 other countries added it to their inventory. The Fighting Falcon is referred to by its pilots as the “Viper” and will remain in USAF service until 2025.
Lockheed F-16C 86-0371 c/n 5C-477 was delivered to the USAF in May 1988 and became
operational with the 614th TFS (TJ) a month later. In May 1992 the aircraft was transferred to the 120th FS (CO) and in October 1994 moved to the 170th FS (SI). In 1997 the aircraft received a special paint scheme marking the 50th Anniversary of the USAF. In July 2008 86-0371 moved to the 445th FLTS (ED) at Edwards AFB where it received its special red/white paint scheme.
