The Messerschmitt ME262 Schwalbe or "Swallow" was the world's first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft. This model is the trainer version of the ME262 which when properly flown proved to be essentially untouchable in combat. However, the advances came at a considerable cost as there were a high number of accidents involving technical problems arising from the newly developed turbojet engines or as a result of undercarriage malfunctions. To help train pilots in operating the new jet-engined fighter this trainer version was designed.
