- Aero200/Wstern Models National Airlines Freighter Curtiss C-46 N1661M

This model represents one C-46 that went to work for National Airlines, July, 1948. It crashed Oct. 2, 1950 in a flight from Newark, NJ to Washington National Airport. The two crew members survived the crash. The probable cause of this accident was the confusion of the crew because of lack of familiarity with the C-46 which resulted in a wheels-up landing half-way down the runway.
Images of the actual N1661M in National Airlines colors were not found. In examining other images of this type of aircraft, WM has done a great job on the nose shape, the shape of the windows.
The three landing gear have been reproduced correctly. There is considerable detail on the wheels and hubs of the main gear. The model has rolling tires. The wing shape is correct. The props and engines look good. The leasing edge of the wings does not have the usual rubber wing warmers that are evident in the images examined but the tail does have this feature.
The wings come into the fuselage with no seams visible. The tail has visible seams. The livery colors and markings are correct for a National Airlines aircraft of that era.
