Inflight Models Olympic Boeing 747-284B Polished SX-OAB c/n 20825/223
This B747-200B had a single owner for more than 45 years, Olympic Airlines. It was delivered to Olympic Dec., 1973, did a short stint with Aerolineas Argentinas April 1996 and back to Olympic in July 1996. It eventually was retired and stored at Athens - Ellinikon (HEW / LGAT) (Closed) after 45.1 years of service under the SX-OAB registration number.

The aircraft was invloved in an :incident: at JFK International Airport June 1, 1988. The aircraft was on short ILS final approach, with the first officer at the controls, when it entered a rain shower. All forward visibility was lost, according to the pilots. The captain then took control of the airplane and performed a go around maneuver. Prior to the go-around, the aircraft touched down and one main landing gear truck struck an approach lighting junction box. At least one main gear tire was blown at that time. The aircraft landed safely and the crew was unaware that they had touched down short and to the right of the overrun. Several components on the underside of the aircraft were damaged by tire fragments. Weather conditions at the time included gusty winds and a slight wind shear.

Olympic flew this aircraft in two different colors. The early images of the aircraft show it in a light blue livery while later it was painted in a dark blue which this model is painted.

Inflight has been producing excellent examples of B747s and this is no exception.

The top of the fuselage is adorned with two antennas and a raised red t warning light. The nose shape is accurate and displays wind shield wipers and windows that are painted in a dark gray color. The Olympic livery matches the colors of images of this aircraft. The Olympic colors centered perfectly on the tail. On the side of the fuselage The name of the aircraft is displayed; Olympic Eagle.

The four passenger doors are highly detailed, however the type is too small to read but adds to the authenticity of the doors. The passenger windows are painted in a dark gray color. Under the tail on the side of the rear fuselage the SX-OAB is painted in white on the dark back drop.

Main and nose landing gear are properly scaled and accurate when compared to images on Airliners.net The nose gear has landing lights as an added detail. The rolling rubber tires are a feature of this model. The fleet number is displayed on the nose gear covers.

The wings display landing lights and the red and green warning lights at the end of the wing. The engines, 4x PW JT9D hang on the wings with no big gapes.

The undercarriage also has several details like a couple of antennas and a 3-d warning light.

Normally I do not collect non US and Canadian airlines but Inflight made their first B727 in Olympic colors and from that point on I have collected Olympic in 200 and 400 scale.

I would give this model an A+ rating.
