Two proposals were submitted with the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor being selected as the new Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF). The aircraft is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All these components contribute to the F-22 being a light weight, extremely maneuverable, extremely fast aircraft that uses stealth technology. The F-22 is also capable of ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence. The 94th FS, 1st FW have called Langley AFB, Virginia home since June 1975. The 94th was created at Kelly Field, Texas in August 1917 as the 94th Aero Squadron. In April 1918 the squadron became known as the “Ring In The Hat” Squadron and was home to several Aces such as 1st Lt. Eddie Rickenbacker “America’s Ace Of Aces”. In 2005 the 94th FS began their transition to the F-22 Raptor with 10-4194 c/n 645-4194 being the last F-22 delivered to the 94th FS.
