Bantam Car Company was the initial winner but couldn’t meet demand so the job went to Willys-Overland Motors. Willys was to take the best design features of the three submitted tenders and build a standardized vehicle. Eventually in order to meet an even greater demand the Ford Motors Company was asked to build a similar vehicle. During World War II there was a total of 647,870 Jeeps produced by the three companies; Willys-Overland produced 362,841 of them. Willys Jeep 95122 was the first of 3 belonging to Captain Dronne of the Armored Division du Maréchal Leclerc, 9th Company Chad Marching Regiment. “Mort Aux Cons” translates into “Death To The Idiots”. August 9, 1944 while racing to LeMans in the dark, “Mort Aux Cons” ran into another vehicle and was destroyed but no personnel injuries. On August 24, 1994 “Mort Aux Cons 2” was the first Allied vehicle to enter Paris. Later renamed "Death to the Boches Nacht Berlin" it was stolen on December 13, 1944 and never found.
