Western Models Reeve Aleutian Lockheed L-188C (PF) Electra "Combi " N178RV (cn 2010)1/200 scale
This air frame has quite a history, eventually going on to fly for Northwest Territorial and later went on to Buffalo Airways after Reeve went into bankruptcy in 2001. With this release it joins N1868R, a all passenger Electra flown by RAA. I also have a rare model N1968R, 1 of 12 made from an old Western Model L-188 mould and sold by KSC of Salt Lake City. RAA was a small airline which used C-46, DC-3, B727-100 and the L-188s in their operations which lasted more than 20 years. Most of the L-188 were combination PAX and Cargo. They were quick change planes in that you could convert them to completely PAX or complete Cargo in a matter of minutes or a combination of both. In Alaska this was a necessity to make each aircraft have these multi-capabilities. Aircraft also had to be able to use short gravel runways and the Electra served these needs well. On the model there is plenty of detail in the 200 scale. The cargo/Pax door on the left side of the fuselage is well marked on the model. The coloring of the windows and cockpit windows are gray and don't look perfectly natural but it is not a deal breaker. At this scale many other micro details could be added and hopefully with time we will see more of that from Western Models. I a happy they have picked RAA to duplicate.
