Western Models Northeast Airlines Boeing 727-295 Yellow bird N1646 (cn 20140/638)
This is one of 50 pieces. A real plus for collectors desiring a very limited edition. The air frame first flew Oct. 14, 1968 and was delivered Oct. 28, 1968 to Northeast. Flying in the Yellow Bird colors tell NE merged with Delta, Aug. 1972. Later the plane went on to fly with Piedmont and US Air and was later scraped in 1994. While the nose on the Western Model 722 looks better than the Inflight versions, the seam were the wings meet the fuselage is a larger gap on Western Model. The model has many positive features, though and that is why it is getting a 5 rather than a 4 rating. Among the features, sharply printed passenger windows an doors. The cockpit shape and windows are correct and the engine shapes are correct. The scaled landing gear features rolling tires, the fleet number printed on the nose gear covers. Those old Yellow tails sure got black with engine exhaust!
