Product Description

Cubana Airlines Canada air 4
DC4M North Star - 71 DC-4s were built by Canadair under the designations North Star, DC-4M, C-4, and C-5. With the exception of the single C-5, these were all powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin engines and 51 of them were pressurized.
Cubana North Star. In 1961, a Canadian company called International Air Freighters was formed, with its head office in Edmonton, Alberta. They bought 3 surplus North Stars for the purpose of transporting freight between Toronto and Cuba. The flights lasted about seven hours and were regularily intercepted by the USAF. The company ran into financial difficulty in 1962 and went out of business. CF-TFC was abandoned at Malton Airport and scrapped shortly afterwards. This did set a tradition of cargo flights between Toronto and Havana, which continues today, operated by a Cubana TU-204 and previously by various Canadian cargo operators.

  1. Aeroclassic 400 Cubana Airlines Canadair DC-4M2/4 North Star 4 CF-TFC in TCA colors (cn127)Review by James F

What an interesting replica. TCA had a large number of the North Stars and leased one out to Cubana. This model and the actual plane look just like a white topped TC except for Cubana de Aviacion on the side of the fuselage. This was part of a freight deal so a Canadian airline could fly to Cuba. The model features the white top of TC which allows for great reproduced of passenger windows on that white background. There a warning lights on the end of the wings and deicing boots on the wings leading edge on the tail. Cockpit windows are properly shaped but the nose is a little bit stubby compared to the real aircraft. Detailed landing gear add to the replica. (Posted on 8/11/2011)
