This aircraft belongs to Clay Lacy Aviation Inc, Van Nuys CA preserved in United Air Lines colors and is still airworthy today. This aircraft was built in 1945 the Air Force as 45-1100. It had many registration before being purchased and restore by Clay Lacy.
It was originally built as a Douglas C-47B-50-DK. The reproduction of this model is pretty much perfect in all respects.
The colors are correct with the images of the airplane. The passenger windows are sharply printed. The nose and cockpit area are spot on as is the tail wheel and the main landing gear.
The engines are reproduced with maximum perfection. The aircraft is painted in the United white top colors.
I hope eventually they will do a rank and file model using the other colors as they did in their 250 scale United model. On the model you can just about hear those PW R-1830 engines roar!
Nice to have this one in 200 scale as well. (Posted on 6/22/2013)
