Aviation 200 US Air Force Boeing EC-137D Sentry AWACS 71-1407 (cn 20518/856) (Polished)
Every time I think I will quit collecting military planes something like this model comes along. It is an old B707-300 convered to recon. It first flew Feb. 9, 1972 and was delivered to the USAF Oct. 23, 1978 and was rebuilt rebuilt from EC-137 serial 856. There are 13 pictures of this aircraft on A-net and these show it going through all its modifications. It is a neat history of the aircraft at http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?cx=partner-pub-8297169501225184%3Aa05n2n-tzky&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=71-1407&sa=Submit&search_active=1&search=&sheadline=&search_field=datedesc&submit=&siteurl=www.airliners.net%2F&ref=&ss=0j0j1 but it does not show this version. This model is before the aircraft was assigned to Tinker AFB, The engines look good with the images as is the shape of the model, nose, cockpit, and tires and landing gear. The model has a large cargo door in the forward part of the aircraft. There are only a few windows on the aircraft and these are reproduced correctly. There are warning lights, landing lights and several antennas on the fuselage. The giant radar and its tower on top of the plane just make this a really cool addition to my model collection.
