I have looked forward to this release for some time. You know how it is, you order and then it is weeks to months before you get to see the model.
There are a couple of things that made me not give this model 5 starts. There are many things I like about it too.
The orange red color of the USCG is distinctive. I don't think this model matches that color. I think it has too much red it. It has been pointed out that perhaps there are many reasons why the pictures on A-net don't match up so well. The age of the aircraft paint job and the lighting to name a couple. But I have seen real CG colors and I believe the model is too red.
Second negative thing is the antennas. I had recently received the Israeli C-130 and it has several antennas. The windows are black and look better than the dark gray on the USCG model.
All of these matters said the mould itself is well shaped. The model has opening rear cargo doors. Aviation 200 did great on the tires and landing gear. I like the nose gear cover
The props are a little wobbly but they have the CG colored tips and they turn when you blow on them.
There are so many extras on this model and replica that are not on other CG Hercs. This one was out of the CG Station Elizabeth City hand has that marked on the tail. Also this was a 50th anniversary for this aircraft. Yep Hercs are really old. This one was built in 1974 but Hercs date back to the early 50s.
There is an antennas just below the door on the port side of the aircraft that would have been nice if the model had it. There is a white spot behind the cockpit. I am not sure what this is but it does not appear in the photos on A-net of this aircraft.
Even with some of the issues this is a cool looking model and I will display next to the Herpa version of the USCG C-130 issued several years ago (Posted on 10/6/2015)
