US Navy F-4J Phantom II "Jolly Rogers" USS Franklin D Roosevelt 1972 HA19004 scale 1:72 Highly detailed Hobby Master Warbird Hobby Master Item number: HA19004 Scale: 1:72 The F-4D was an improved “C” variant with most improvements being internal electronics and avionics. The F-4D entered operational service in April 1966 and joined the combat forces in Southeast Asia in May 1967. With the arrival of the “D” most of the “C” variant were reassigned to ground attack with the “D”s taking on the air-to-air interceptor role. In 1968 – 1969 a total of 825 “D” models were produced 793 for the USAF and 32 for the Iranian Air Force. From January 1970 until July 1975 McDonnell Douglas F-4J 155854 was assigned to VF-84 “Jolly Rogers” onboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) Carrier Air Wing 6 CVW-6). From February 1972 until December 1972 VF-84 and the USS FDR deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. In 1965 VF-84 began their Phantom II carrier days with theF-4B aboard the USS Independence. They flew the B variant until transferring to the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt in January 1970 and received the F-4J. For a brief period in 1975 they flew the F-4N.
