Hogan HG5620 1:200 Scale / USMC F/A-18D Hornet VK-01 VMFA(AW)-121 "Green Knights" CAG (2009 markings)
I recently purcased this aircraft and was quite amazed by its detail considering how small it is in scale. The quality control was quite good for the most part. However, there were issues with the landing gear wheels as I had to align them by bending them in place in order to balance out the aircraft's stance. Also, with small scale aircraft, one must be careful of small parts breaking or falling off when handled. It does require a bit of TLC on one's part. Other than the landing gear issues (which is a hit and miss at times for this model type and fixable), I was overall quite pleased. Although a bit pricey by collector standards, this line well makes up for it in its overall "detail." Therefore, I gave a rating of 4 out of 5 and highly recommend it for the small scale military aircraft collector at heart.
In terms of this model's origin, it belongs to the Hogan M-Series 1:200 scale die-cast aircraft line which is known for having detailed and "very close to accurate" markings, color schemes, landing gear, ordnance options, and moulds.
In terms of military aviation history, this particular F/A-18D Hornet aircraft (registration # 165413) belonged to the VMFA(AW)-121 "Green Knights" squadron and was its CAG bird (2009). Its home station at the time was MCAS Miramar, California USA. Also, this squadron was deployed as part of the Unit Deployment Program to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan from September 2008 to March 2009, March 2010 to September 2010, and January 2012 to July 2012. By late 2012, this squadron transitioned from the Hornet to the F-35B Lightning II aircraft.
