Details
Mohawk Convair CV-440 in 1:200 In mid-1958, Convair approached Mohawk concerning five white- tailed aircraft sitting in San Diego unsold. Mohawk jumped at the chance to be the first local service carrier to introduce the brand new Convair 440. As the first Convair 440 arrived, Mohawk introduced a new paint scheme which consisted of a gold and black stripe that ran along the length of the fuselage. Mohawk would call the new Convair 440s “metropolitans.” In late 1958, Mohawk finally opened its new maintenance base as the operation moved from Ithaca to Utica. Gemini 200 Mohawk Convair CV-440-54 N4401
This was a wonderful airline in its time. This aircraft was just want regional airlines needed to feed the developing hubs in the 1950s and 1960s. There are three pictures of this airframe on Airliners.net. I think that the model's nose is too short and should be extended, according to the pictures. As for the color of the model these appear to be correct with other airframes but the examples on A-net show a blue livery which must have run for a time. On 400scale.com there was discussion about the antenna being too big. On the images available I don't think it is off too much. Some time in the next few months, Herpa will also issue a Mohawk Convair CV440. Unfortunately for people like me, they have chosen the same registration number.
