Aeroclassics 400 Curtiss C-46D Commando Braniff International N1383N
After I got this model I spent a couple of weeks just looking at it. I teamed it up with the Braniffs in these colors with the DC-3, L-749, DC-6 and CV-240. One of the earlier issues had ground service equipment so I displayed it around the models, wishing I could get another couple of sets of the GSE. We still need the DC-4 and DC-7 in these colors.

N1383N came to the USAF at the end of World War II. It acquired a new i.d. after the war N8320C and then came to work for Braniff in 1955 as N1383N. It transferred to Air America in 1963. It was broken up in 1980.

When you compare the C-46 with the DC-3 it is striking that the C-46 has a much larger wing surface. Our example here is favored as accurately portraying N1383N the Braniff colors of its first generation of aircraft The use of red, white and blue on a white backdrop gives them wonderful addition to the models of this era.

There is only one image of this aircraft taken at Love Field, Dallas, TX , January, 1962. It was a foggy day at Love Field but the image allows us to compare the model very well.

The ;landing gear are correctly sized, the engine shapes are correct and the props yellow tips. The font size is correct. The nose shape is correct and the cockpit windows are depicted correctly on the model.

This is a fine addition to the Braniff collection
