The Comet was late entering WWII so it wasn’t involved in any major battles but with its new main gun it could take on Germany’s large tanks. After WWII the Comet saw combat in Korea and remained in the British inventory until 1958. The Comet was sold to 5 other countries and some even operated until the 1970s. The leaf and 2 acorns is the flash for the Irish Defense Force Training Center. The site encompasses the Curragh Camp and the Glen of Imaal and these large areas offer room for cross-country driver training, artillery range and more. From 1960 until 1964 members of the DFTC assisted the UN in the Congo and in 1964 sent members to Cyprus to help keep peace between the Turkish and Greek citizens of that country. This peace keeping action lasted until 2005. Specifications for the A34 Comet Type – Cruiser Manufacturer – Leyland Motors Ltd.
