Continental Airlines was a major U.S. airline, founded in 1934 and eventually headquartered in Houston, Texas. In May 2010, the airline announced that it would merge with UAL Corporation, the parent company of United Airlines, via a stock swap. Continental's shares were acquired by UAL Corporation. The acquisition was completed in October 2010, at which time the holding company was renamed United Continental Holdings. During the integration period, each airline ran a separate operation under the direction of a combined leadership team, based in Chicago, Illinois. The integration was completed on March 3, 2012. The Boeing 720 was a four-engine narrow-body short- to medium-range passenger jet airliner. Developed by Boeing in the late 1950s from the Boeing 707, the 720 has a shorter fuselage and less range. The 720 first flew in November 1959 and the model entered service with launch customer United Airlines in July 1960.

Western Models Continental Airlines Boeing B720-024B "Black Meatball" N57202 (cn 18417/295)
These old black meatball colors of Continental look great on this 720 mould. The aircraft was built in 1962 and first flew for Boeing May 18, 1962. The air frame was delivered to Continental May 27, 1962 and flew for them. It later flew for Ethiopian Airlines and Saudi Airlines. The aircraft was broken up in 1989. It's carcass is still at Davis Monthan AFB. An interesting side note is that the registration number was later placed on a B747sp.

I like how solid this model feels. It is perfectly balanced. The fuselage is white so placing the old gold and red colors of Continental on is really appealing. The meatball is the correct size and black color.

The wings meet the fuselage almost seamlessly. The engines meet the wing seamlessly as well with the pylons merging with the wing. On the wing the tip warning lights are displayed and also the landing lights are on the wing near the fuselage.

The nose, cockpit and cockpit windows are perfectly shaped. The windshield wipers add another touch of detail. The passenger doors and windows are positioned properly in conduction with he cheat line.

Cargo bay doors are printed on the model and stand out sharply with the white back drop of the fuselage.

I have every 200 scale model of Continental made up through the merger with United. This is a lovely piece to add to the collection of black and red meatballs.
