All pilots of the German Air Force are trained at the Tactical Air Force Squadron 73 "Steinhoff" in Laage near Rostock on the Eurofighter. 30 + 01 is the first two-seater still in operation, which was delivered to the German armed forces. The squadron's name-giver, Johannes "Macky" Steinhoff, was a World War II aviator and a central figure in the Cold War rewrite of the Luftwaffe.
