Pan Am Boeing 727-200 N4738 bilboard-cheatline test livery Herpa 571845 die-cast model scale 1:200
Highly detailed die-cast Herpa Wings model 1:200 scale
When Pan Am introduced a new livery in the early 1980s, it first tested the new design on a number of aircraft. One of these aircraft was this 727, which received a hybrid of the old blue stripe with greatly enlarged letters on the sides of the fuselage. Ultimately, in 1984, Pan Am decided to drop the strip entirely and introduce the well-known Billboard livery. However, “Clipper Electric” wore this test paint until at least 1985.
