Details
Highly detailed Pan American World Airways Super Constellation Lockheed L-1049G Hobby Master HL9005 N6213C Die-cast model in 1:200 scale. Comes with Landing Gears and Stand! In response to the Douglas DC-4 Lockheed developed the Constellation. As more powerful engines were developed the Constellation was stretched 21 feet and improvements made resulting in the L-1049G Super Constellation. The development of the L-1049G improved range with the addition of wing-tip tanks. The more powerful engines made it necessary to use large propellers that required the aircraft to sit quite high off the ground. A triple tail was developed because the size of a single tail would have been too large to fit in any hangar. N6213C was a Lockheed L-1049-53 built in 1952 with a c/n 4013. The aircraft was delivered to Eastern Airlines in late 1952 and operated with them until 1968 however it was leased to Pan American World Airways between June and November of 1955. Pan Am named the aircraft “Clipper Climax” and this was the one and only L-1049 operated by this airline. In 1962 the aircraft made a belly landing due to nose gear failure. The damage was repaired and N6213C flew with Eastern for six more years before being stored for 5 months and then became the property of the Aviation Corporation of America. In June 1976 the aircraft was sold to a new owner in Oklahoma and in January 1977 the registration for N6213C L-1049 was cancelled.
