- Outstanding 1:200 scale model of the iconic Lockheed L-749 "Connie"

Western Models has done another super job in producing a great example of this iconic Lockheed L-749 "Connie." If you're a model collector and a Delta fan like I am, I think this model is a must have for any airline collection. The scale of the model is spot-on and WM did a great job capturing the detail of the landing gears. The Tampo graphics are very nice, sharpe and true colors for this wonderful livery. The only "snafu" is the American Flag on the right side of the tail, the blue part of the flag is facing backwards. Overall this is an outstanding representation in 1:200 scale of one of the most important airliners of it's day. This model was issued at the same time Western Models released another Delta L-749 with the Delta colors. Western Models has a nice L-749 mould but I think they could add a few more details on a model this size that would give it something a little extra. Landing gear look good on this model, including the nose gear which has much more details than previously issued WM models from the old company. The airplane had big tires and this is well depicted in the model The model has a scaled antenna, spinning props and rolling tires. The window printing and cockpit shape appears good. WM has captured the nose shape very well. This aircraft was delivered to Chicago and Southern Airlines May, 1951 until merged into Delta April, 1954 and on to TWA that same month. The model for me is a "must have" for my Delta collection. Model makers have pumped out a huge number of Delta models over the years. (Posted on 3/25/2011)
