This little gem used to fly from Miami down the west coast of South America in the 1930s and 1940s. Imagine the experience. The props and engines were very loud and it was a long ride.
This aircraft was delivered to Pan American Grace Aug. 27, 1934. It crashed and was beyond repair at Arajuno, Ecuador, on July 31, 1944. There are three black and white pictures of the aircraft on Airliners.net.
This aircraft and the model have the one antenna hanging down off the nose. Other DC-2s with other airlines sometimes had two and some time had none.
The model replicates well the structure of the landing gear and the tail dragging landing gear. The nose shape is correct and displays the two landing lights on the nose. The cockpit windows are spot on. The aircraft registration number is correctly shown on top and bottom of the wings as well as on the tail.
The PAA Grace logo is positioned correctly. The yellow stripes on he wings look great on the aluminum colored wings.
HM has done an especially good job on this mould and hopefully will continue to produce more DC-2s which are such an important link in aviation history.
