The F-16 Fighting Falcon was produced by General Dynamics who became Lockheed who then merged with Martin Marietta to become Lockheed Martin. The F-16 entered service in January 1979 as a multi-role jet fighter that evolved into an all-weather multi-role aircraft capable of sustaining 9-g turns. The F-16 is relatively inexpensive to purchase and maintain so the U.S. and 25 other countries added it to their inventory. The Fighting Falcon is referred to by its pilots as the “Viper” and will remain in USAF service until 2025. Lockheed F-16 Block 52+ 4060 was production serial 03-0060 c/n JC-21 and began flying with Polish Air Force 6th Fighter Squadron of 31st Tactical Air Base located at Poznan. Poznan became the official location of the 31st TAB on April 1, 2008 with the 3rd FS tasked with F-16 Basic Training and the 6th FS as the operational combat squadron. 2011 marked the 50th Anniversary of the NATO Tiger Meet and the first appearance of the Polish Air Force and their F-16s.
