One thing is for sure there were not many B747SP's. I think only 54 were made. Inflight has given us several in the form of Legacy airline colors.
The SP really looks good in UAL Battleship colors. This aircraft first flew under the registration N536PA April 25, 1977 and was delivered to Pan Am May 6, 1977. It was registered N145UA by UAL Feb. 18.1986 coming in with Saul Bass colors. It kept the same registration number when it was acquired by NASA Oct., 1997 and still flying.
This replica is spot on in the Battleship The cockpit shape and windows looks good as is the shape of the nose. colors. There are several antennas on the fuselage. The model also has wing tip warning lights and after of the cockpit.
The landing gear looks good. Cargo bay doors are sharply depicted as are the passenger doors and windows. The engines are well done and almost have the weathered look you would expect from an operational aircraft.
This is a nice model to add to my UAL collection. (Posted on 3/7/2013)
