Inflight200 United “Friend Ship” B747-122 Polished N4727U (cn 19883/193)
It seemed like forever before this model came out but it was sure worth the wait. N4727U first flew June 16, 1972 and was delivered to United June 27, 1972 and registered by United Aug. 1, 1972. For its entire career it was with United till being stored for parts. It came to United in the Friend Ship colors and later was painted in the Saul Bass colors. The aircraft was broken up in 1998. Maybe IF will decide to do the Saul Bass version sometime in the future. The aircraft carried the name "Robert E. Johnson". The model has many wonderful features. I like little details like the landing lights, the antennas and warning lights. The polished belly has clearly marked cargo bay doors. The landing gear is nice but my model had a bent nose gear. The nose gear cover has the fleet number printed on it. The JT9D-7A engines have many detailed markings and are shaped to match the various images on A-net correctly. Passenger doors and windows are correct as are the colors and the cheatline of the Friend Ship colors. Nose shape and cockpit windows are correct. In this livery there are at least six more 200 scale models. There is another 747 (stars and bars livery) and a DC-10 that will join this one in my model collection. This image on A-net verifies many of the models details: http://www.airliners.net/photo/United-Airlines/Boeing-747-122/0680366/L/&sid=93849a4067281dafb0f77a68fb4b6744 The run on this model was 172.
