BLUE BOX 200 US NAVY Convair UC-880-22M-21 Reg# 161572 (cn 22-00-55)
There were only 65 Convair 880s made in the production that began in the early 1960s. This example was made in 1961. There is a picture on Airliners.net that shows this aircraft taking off and with a trail of smoke and exhaust behind it, typical of the Convairs and the B707s and B727s of the early jet age. This aircraft was destroyed in a cargo hold explosion test in 1995.

The model gets an A+. Blue Box has captured the shape and details collectors want. On the top of the fuselage there are three antennas after of the cockpit and a red warning light that also stands out. On the tail the colors are captured correctly with the registration number displayed and an American flag properly positioned.

The nose, cockpit and cockpit windows are all properly shaped. Landing lights are on the wings. The blue paint on the wings and undercarriage of the model really looks good and matches with the real aircraft. Passenger windows and doors stand out on the white paint of the fuselage.

On the horizontal stabilizers there are the two antennas properly placed and scaled. The landing gear looks good and the engines are shaped correctly.

This is a nice addition to my 200 scale military.
