Hobby Master 200 Douglas DC-2-120 American Airlines NC14274
I was so excited when HM announced another DC-2 for my collection. This aircraft crashed Jan. 14, 1936 while flying the 55 minutes from Memphis to Little Rock. All on board will killed, including three crew members and the 14 passengers on board. The plane crashed into the swamp. This is a news report of the crash:
http://www3.gendisasters.com/arkansas/4127/goodwin,-ar-plane-crashes-swampland,-jan-1936. There is an image on A-net: http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/5386931/ From this image it looks like HM as captured the essence of this remarkable early aviation pioneer. The black and white image show HM has matched the position of the AA orange on the model properly. The registration number is properly positioned on the wing. The model has spinning props and quite a bit of detail on the engines. Passenger windows are sharply printed and properly positioned. The cockpit shape is correct as are the cockpit windows. The aircraft was featured in the 1934 Shirley Temple movie "Bright Eyes." This aircraft was one of 15 DC-2 AA fleet. It apparently was AA's first DC-2 coming into service Nov. 4, 1934 and used till the aircraft crashed Jan. 14, 1936. This is another good thumb nail history of this aircraft: http://www.flyinghigher.net/douglas/NC14274.html
