F-102A Delta Dagger 525th. Fighter Interceptor Squadron "The Fighting Bulldogs" 1961 RAF Wethersfield, England, June 1961 n August 9, 1954 the 525th Fighter-Bomber-Squadron was re-designated 525th Fighter-Interceptor-Squadron “The Fighting Bulldogs”. On February 12, 1957 the squadron was moved to Bitburg Air Base in Germany where it stayed until 1992. In February 1959 the 525th FIS received its first F-102 Delta Dagger “Deuce” and used them until 1969. F-102 56-1111 c/n 08-10-328 was sent to MASD (Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition) in 1975. Later it was converted to a QF-102A and ended its career as a PQM-102 target. Convair F-102A Delta Dagger The F-102 was first flown on October 24, 1953. This aircraft was the USAF's first delta-wing fighter, and was also the USAF's first operational supersonic interceptor. Its primary mission was to intercept Soviet bombers, though it was also used as a bomber escort and ground attack aircraft during the Vietnam War. F-102s served with the USAF until the mid to late 1960s, when many of them were transferred to the US Air National Guard. By 1973, many F-102s were being used as target drones for testing the Patriot missile system, and the type was officially retired from service in 1976.
