Gemini Jets 200 Frontier Airlines Convair CV-580 N73126
When I saw this model was going to be made I got excited. When I first started coming to Colorado from Florida in the late 60s and early 70s, I would fly to Denver and take one of the Frontier Convairs to nearby Colorado Springs. While there is no way to say if I flew on this registration it is fun to look at this model and imagine that maybe it was "the one." I looked up N73126 on Airliners.net and this aircraft in these colors is pictured at my favorite airport Jackson Hole International, WY. There are only three pix at A-net: http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?cx=partner-pub-8297169501225184%3Aa05n2n-tzky&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=+N73126+&sa=Submit&search_active=1&search=&sheadline=&search_field=datedesc&submit=&siteurl=www.airliners.net%2F. This aircraft was one of the original CV340's. It started out in the Saul Bass United colors and was later modifed to a CV580 and put in the Frontier colors. Later the aircraft became and Aspen Airways commuter out of Denver. When you look at the model it is amazing to see how big the props are but they are properly saled. The model features sharply printed passenger doors and windows. GJ has done well on the cockpit shape and nose of the model, though the nose may be a tad short. The landing gear is properly scaled and spot on. The printing of the logo and "Frontier" is the correct size and font. The model also features warning lights, several antennas and nice cargo bay doors. I hope we see GJ issuing this registration on the original Saul Bass colors. Perhaps we will get another Aspen in the orange colors in addition to the two recently realeased Aspen Airways CV-580s. The aircraft was built in !953 and was still flying in 1991 but not other records indicate a later use of this aircraft. Review by James F (Posted on 2/8/2012)
