Details
A2 Soyuz TMA-3 Rocket (Space) 1:400 scale Space Along with the USA and China, Russia continues to invest heavily in space programs via the Russian Federal Space Agency. Indeed, it regularly launches flights to service the International Space Station (ISS) that orbits the Earth at an average altitude of 370km. Dragon’s newest model in its exciting Space Collection represents one of the Soyuz family of rockets used by Russia. Specifically it’s Soyuz TMA-3, the third flight of the TMA type. With three international astronauts (a Russian, American and Spaniard) aboard, the spacecraft blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on 18 October 2003. It coupled with the Docking Module/Compartment Pirs of the ISS on two days later before safely returning to Earth on 29 April 2004. Soyuz TMA-3 had been in orbit for 195 days. Designed for the operational parameters of the ISS, the Soyuz-FG is the only vehicle that Russia has used to send missions to the Space Station since late 2002. Dragon’s fully built-up and pre-painted Space Collection model is manufactured precisely to 1/400 scale, which allows full detail to be incorporated without making it overly cumbersome in size. With American, Japanese and European rockets already featuring in the Dragon Space Collection, it was essential that Russia also be represented. Thus the new A2 Soyuz TMA-3 stems from entirely new molds. With the manned spacecraft mounted on its Soyuz-FG launch vehicle, the rocket’s appearance is quite different to Western systems. With its good looks and precision molding, it will definitely be soaring into numerous model collections worldwide.
