Inflight 200 Pan Am Boeing 747-121 "Clipper Defender" N738PA (cn 19645/14)
This replica represents one of the earliest B747s made. It was built in 1969. It first flew Jan. 19, 1970 and was delivered to Pan Am as Clipper Defender Feb. 5, 1970. It was later renamed Clipper Belle of the Sea. The aircraft crashed and damaged beyond repair in Karachi, Pakistan August 4, 1983). The registration number N738PA had been previously used on a Pan Am DC-7C 1956-1965.

The days of the early 747 and Pan Am were pretty simple. The white fuselage punctuated by the Pan amd Blue cheat line and meatball are well carried on this model. The American flag tops the tail above the meatball.

The model has several antennas top and bottom of the fuselage and warning lines on the fuselage as well as on the end of the wings. The landing lights on the wings add another detail to this model.

The title Clipper Defender font size on the model is small compared to the images from A-net.

The wings meet the fuselage almost seamlessly. The nose shape, cockpit shape and cockpit windows are correct. You can see the wind shield wipers just below the cockpit. The engine shape is correct. (At one time this aircraft had a 5th engine as part of an test in April, 1976).

The landing gear has rolling rubber tires, is correctly shaped. The cargo bay doors are printed in white on the polished metal belly. They look really good.

I have more than 35 Pan Am's in 200 scale and several 747s. This was such a beautiful era in aviation history. You can't have too many
