Gemini Jets 400 Pan American World Airways Boeing 747SP-21 "Clipper Constitution" N532PA (cn 2102/270)
This replica has so much history! Boeing delivered the B747-SP to Pan Am March 29, 1976. It went to United as N142UA February, 1986 and was later parted out at Ardmore, OK in 1998. This aircraft was leased to the rock group "Kiss" their 1976 tour of Japan. The aircraft was renamed "Clipper Kiss Special" for the tour. After the aircraft was passed on from Pan American to United it carried a hybrid livery with the United tail logo and United printed on the forward fuselage but the blue stripes from Pan Am and the white background color of the aircraft still show. The aircraft was also used by Pan Am on its inaugural flights to LHR and PHNL using the SP. There are two pages of pictures of the aircraft on A-net, including the UAL hybrid paint job. On the model the Pan Am blues match nicely. The tail flag might be a tad large compared to the A-net pictures. The upper deck windows placed above the "Pan Am" are perfectly lined up. There is a nice nose closeup on A-net and GJ has done well in depicting the colors under the nose and the black radome. "Clipper Consitution" is lined up under the cockpit and forward of the "Pan Am" as on the photo images. Type faces are correct. There is great detail on the passenger doors marked on the aircraft. You can see the door handles. The mould appears right on when compared to the images. It is nice to see more than one model maker have an SP mould (the other is Herpa). There are a dearth of airlines that used the SP. Review by James F (Posted on 12/14/2010)
