The model maker Gemini Jets gets a blue star on their forehead and goes to the head of the class with this model. And to paint this model in the Piedmont colors is to bring back memories of an era of aviation that was not as rushed or crowded as it is today.
The white back drop, the polished metal are a perfect easel for the Piedmont colors of the 1970s and 1980s.
On top of the fuselage there is a scaled radio antenna aft of the cockpit. A big red warning light in the middle and a tail that rises from the fuselage with a small seam visible but not distracting were the tail meets the fuselage. Little details like an antenna or warning light is what collectors want and there are many more examples with this beautiful model.
The registration number is blocked perfectly at the base of the tail. The polished horizontal stabilizer you can see your face in when you look at it it is so shinny.
The wings are also beauifully polished. The engines are shaped exactly and the props also are perfect.
The nose, cockpit shape and cockpit windows are flawless. The dark gray of the windows gives a real look. Windshield wipers add another great detail.
The landing gear are properly shaped and the gear covers to scale. The only thing that would be a good addition to future YS-11s would be more detail on the wheels. The models are vague but the use of lug nuts and other details of a tire would be a good addition in the future.
The model has a newly fitted stand. The interlinking is a clear plastic and hopefully end up more durable then the previous version.
The aircraft first flew for YSMAC Dec. 1, 1967 and was registered with Piedmont June 12, 1978. April 13, 1979 it was registered with Airborne Express.
