  1. Hobby Master 200 United Airlines "Mainliner Des Moines" DC-6B N37568 C/N 44081Review by James F

I could not fine a picture of this aircraft but did find a number of images from the era of this DC-6 with United. I love this model. The shape of the cockpit is perfect with the images on Airliners.net. I do wish HM and others would use black paint for the windows. This is more of a grayish color. HM does have the black in front of the cockpit correct. The fleet number of this aircraft is 7568 and that is painted on the nose gear covers. The color blue of this plane is much darker than the recently issued Convair 340 in UAL colors. It turns out that the Convair's lighter blue was correct for that particular airframe but some of the others were painted in the darker blue like this model depicts. The red white and blue proper tips look great. There is also nice detail on the engines and engine cowling. Cargo bay doors are marked. N37568 came to United in 1953. It carried the P & W R-2800 series engines. The aircraft was configured for 96 passengers. It also flew under the registration N66DG. It was ex-Pacific Alaska. It was photographed at the Pima Air and Space Museum in 1980. N66DG was de-registered March 18, 2011. (Posted on 4/15/2011)
