About Boeing 727

B727

A whopping 1,831 B727's were produced, the first of which flew in 1963, beginning what turned out to be a decade as the most produced commercial airliner. Until the early 1990's when its record was surpassed by the 737, the 727 held the thorn for the best selling airliner in history. The 727 owes much of its success to its unique wing design which provides it with the capability of using smaller runways while still retaining a medium range, allowing it access to smaller cities.

One unique characteristic of the B727 is that it’s loud, real loud. So loud in fact that new regulation requires that B727’s in commercial service to be retrofitted with a “hush kit” to reduce their engine noise to permitted levels. Needless to say, if die-cast models came with sound effects, the B727 models would need to come including earplugs.
