Including the licensed productions in India and Switzerland, over 2,000 copies of the “Feldlarche”, as “Alouette” is translated from French, have been produced since 1959. Even today, numerous examples are still in military and civilian use due to their simple and robust design as well as their good flight controls. In service with the Austrian Federal Army since 1967, it quickly became apparent that the Alouette was also particularly suitable for rescue missions in high mountains, which earned it the nickname “St. Bernard of the Skies”.
