Gemini 400 Delta Airlines L-1011-385-1 Tristar N728DA (cn 193C-1173)
I make a habit of checking various places for "rare" models. Every once in a while I get lucky and find something. For some reason this model was not in my collection till now. It is beautiful in some many ways. The plane had its first flight Oct. 12, 1979 and was delivered to Delta Nov. 9, 1979. This aircraft flew the last revenue flight for Delta in an L-1011. It was flown to Victorville, CA for storage August 1, 2001. Employees put their signatures on the aircraft but these are not visible on the model. The aircraft N728DA was later donated to the Flying Hospital for spare parts from the scrape yard at Victorville, CA by Delta employees . The aircraft is very well document in photos with close ups and distant shots from all directions. There are five pages of pictures on Airliners.net, including some of the interior of the aircraft as well as exterior shots. GJ has captured the nose shape and the cockpit window placement. I would not mind seeing a little more detail on the landing gears but they are properly scaled. The passenger windows are reproduced correctly. The widget colors of Delta also are spot on. Now if I can just find the Jet-X Delta Tristar I will have all of them in my collection! Review by James F (Posted on 3/30/2011)
