The PHX edition of the MD-11 is a beautiful model and captures the glory of this aircraft.
The aircraft was delivered to MD December 23, 1993 as N9020Z. It was registered by the Royal Saudi Air Force as HZ-HM8 Feb. 17, 1999. It was re-registered June 11, 2001 by Saudi Arabian Royal Flight . It was stored at Kloten Airport, Zurich, Switzerland June 2006. The information on this aircraft is somewhat confusing as to whether it was a demo aircraft for MD or if it went straight to the Saudi air force.
The aircraft is painted white so any colors added to it stand out nicely. The cheatline colors and tail colors are perfectly matched with the actual aircraft.
Although there are markings for warning lights and antenna's on the model they are not 3-d like some models now being done by model makers. On the top of the aircraft you can see the warning lights and a WIFI module. On the bottom of the model there is just a solid blue color and no warning lights, antennas or other details.
Cargo bay doors are marked on the starboard side of the aircraft. Passenger doors and windows are sharply printed. PHX used a gray color for the windows instead of black which I think looks better on a model than the gray. Cockpit windows are also gray but are way shaped as is the nose of the model.
Scaled landing gear look great. There is no fleet number on the nose gear cover. The engines are correctly shaped
All and all this is a nice addition to any one's collection of MD-11s.
